Week of April 13th 2014: Best Coins to Mine

Here's a list of coins I have been mining this week with good profitability.

Very good profitability with scrypt-jane coins, fluttercoin and eccoin best scrypt coins to mine, execoin still best scryptn, groestlcoin also had a good pump on mintpal.

1. ZcCoin continues to be pumped every couple of days, worth looking into if you like scrypt-jane coins. Its at nfactor 14 so you'd mine at the same hashrate as you would with YACoin.

2. Yacoin  Yacoin continues to be profitable with a few BTC volume and some pumps last week .01btc per day with atleast 18kh/s @nfactor 14.

3. Myriadcoin Great coin, still one of the largest trade volumes in past couple of weeks.  Scrypt, groestl, qubit, sha256d all profitable with the high volume of btc trades per day.

4. GroestlCoin After being voted onto Mintpal, Groestlecoin has increased in value significantly, great algo for gpu mining definitely worth looking into.

5. Fluttercoin one of the only scrypt coins I bother mining and one of the most profitable scrypt coins mineable in past weeks. It offers much more than other scrypt coins, has a large btc trade volume and is on mintpal exchange. Did extremely well last couple days, people who mined at a low-diff made some good coin.

6. Execoin during past weeks this coin has been more profitable than spaincoin and vertcoin being the only scryptn coin worth mining in the past weeks.

7. Aidencoin this coin just came out last week, its a pretty intresting coin it uses an algo they call Scrypt-OG which is nscrypt 64, similar to vertcoin's nscrypt 2048 but much more pleasant on gpus.

Big changes coming to ultracoin

A lot of changes are planned for ultracoin in the coming weeks. Seems like coin devs are not too happy with the value and the spread of hashrate between coin's pools. Bumface the coin's main face of the community shared on bitcointalk this week his motives on improving the coin's value, fairness, and future development. His announcement is pretty vague on the schedule of the changes however be ready to see some drastic changes to the specifications of the coin. For one he is changing the coin's block reward from 50 to 15 to increase scarcity and lengthen the longevity of mining. The coin has been pretty profitable to mine compared to the vast majority of scrypt coins out there, however in the past week the profitability has dropped significantly and it could even fall more drastically once the change in block reward occurs. Be prepared for a big fork in the network and some large dumps in coming days for this coin.

Week of March 30th: Best Coins to Mine

Here's a list of coins I have been mining this week with stable profability.

Very good profability with scrypt-jane coins, scryptn coins have also been more profitable than most scrypt coins this week.

1. Ultracoin stable .01btc per day with atleast 300kh/s @nfactor 11 and now atleast 100kh/s @nfactor 12, good ~20btc volume/day between cryptsy and mintpal (way better).

2. Yacoin stable .01btc per day with atleast 18kh/s @nfactor 14, stable 4+btc volume/day on bter.

3. Myriadcoin .005btc per day depending on type of algorithm diff. Scrypt, groestl, qubit, sha256d all profitable with the high volume of btc trades per day.

4. Heavycoin .007btc per day with atleast 50+MHs. Great coin for gpus, the heavy algorithm doesn't cause high gpu temps and the pow block reward voting is a new great unique implementation.

5. Fluttercoin one of the only scrypt coins I bother mining and one of the most profitable scrypt coins mineable in past weeks. It offers much more than other scrypt coins, has a large btc trade volume and is on mintpal exchange.

6. Execoin during past weeks this coin has been more profitable than spaincoin and vertcoin being the only scryptn coin worth mining in the past week.

Zeitcoin changes to 1 PoW block reward

Yesterday Zeitcoin changed to 1 PoW block reward making it pretty much a fully PoS coin. For people who don't know, PoW is proof of work the amount of coins awarded to miners for finding a block, and PoS is proof of stake a system that rewards coin holders for keeping their coins in there wallet and not transferring them or selling. Most PoS coins takes about 20 days for your held coins to stake and even longer until you are rewarded with PoS blocks through your wallet. In order for you to receive PoS blocks you need to keep your wallet open and unlocked. If you have encrypted your wallet and haven't unlocked it then you will not receive any PoS blocks. In my opinion I think it's a huge hassle encrypting your wallet and unlocking it with "walletpassphrase (your password) 999999" in the debug console window of your wallet. It becomes a huge pain in the ass having to renter that command in to receive PoS. If no one else uses your pc with your wallet on it then just keep it unencrypted makes things a lot simpler. Zeitcoin isn't the first coin to do a large PoW phase then switch to a 1 block reward fully PoS coin. Mintcoin came out before zeitcoin and has the same design as zeitcoin which was and still is very popular on mintpal having over a 1000 BTC trade volume per day in past weeks. I don't think zeitcoin will be as popular as a coin as mintcoin because it's pretty much a duplicate of mintcoin, but if you missed out on mintcoin and believe in the coin's design then zeitcoin for 2 satoshi isn't a bad deal at this stage. Also if you have any zeitcoins that you don't want to sell at this moment don't keep them on exchanges because that exchange will receive the PoS for your coins, not you.

Ultracoin nfactor changes to 12

Ultracoin just hit it's next nfactor change to 12! If you haven't updated your miners yet your probably getting HW errors right now. Last time I checked the difficulty was at .07 which makes ultracoin a great coin to mine at the moment being able to double up on coins before people adjust their miners and the net hashrate increases. Ultracoin has been one of my favorite coins to mine in the past couple months with the BTC volume pretty strong over 20 BTC between cryptsy and mintpal. I wouldn't send your utc to craptsy however, mintpal is defiantly a better exchange with much faster and reliable deposits and withdrawals.

Potcoin Forks

Pot coin just forked with a fix to their kimoto gravity well implementation which drove most pools off the wrong chain causing the coin's difficulty to drop to 0. Would been a great opportunity to solo mine during that small period before pool's fixed their connection. Wish I knew before the coin forked like aurora coin last week to get some solo mining in but doubt my shitty hash rate would of found any blocks competing against the farmers. But still would of been a fun gamble and opportunity always good to watch twitter and follow coin devs for updates on forks could really benefit some miners out there with large farms capable in solo mining. If I see another coin announce a fork I'll try announcing on twitter to let people know.

If you havent heard yet theres a new type of nvidia miner called ccminer which was created from the same dev as cudaminer cbuchner1. This new miner can mine only three new types of algorithms, heavy, groestl, and fugue. Many of these algorithms came out with new coins last month which have had the most BTC volume in the past few weeks. One of these coins is Myraidcoin, a multi-algorithim coin where the miner has the choice to pick which algorithm he wants to mine. You have the option to choose between scrypt, sha256d, qubit, skein, or groestl. This is a very unique coin which opens up a lot of options for investors and miners to get a hold of the coin. Each algorithm of Myriadcoin has a different difficulty which is based on the network's hashrate for that algorithm. This combination of algorithms allows all miners to be apart of one coin. All sha256 ASIC owners can mine it, and now with scrypt ASICs coming out they also can mine the coin. Since sha256 ASICs can only mine the sha256 algorithm and scrypt ASICs can only mine the scrypt algorithm, GPU miners still have a equal or better opportunity in mining the other algorithms offered by the coin (qubit, skein, and groestl). Each of Myraidcoin's algorithms is separate from one another so each of its difficulties is related to the net hashrate allowing a somewhat equal playing field in payouts between ASIC and GPU miners. Myraidcoin continues to dominate in the BTC market for the past few weeks and right now it is trading at 150 BTCs per day. Another coin which came out last month is Heavycoin which is currently selling at a volume of 36 BTCs per day. This new coin uses its own heavy algorithm, and is very GPU friendly. If you dont want a lot of ware and tare on your GPUs then this coin is a great match. It doesn't use 100% of your GPU's load which allows them to run a lot cooler than scrypt or scryptn coins. Both of these coins have great potential from being greatly distinct to other coins, each has its own value, algorithms, and benefits from mining.
